Originally from Maryland, Sara has been at Indiana University since 1985, when she enrolled in the MA in Applied Linguistics program at IU Bloomington after teaching English in a community-based adult education program for three years in Beni Suef, Egypt. A graduate teaching appointment with the Intensive English Program/Center for English Language Training led directly in 1987 to a position as the first full-time lecturer in IUPUI's ESL Program (now the English for Academic Purposes Program). Since 1991 she has been engaged with international services in the IUPUI Office of International Affairs. Her family epitomizes the spirit of IUPUI: her husband is also a long-time IUPUI staff member, and her son is pursuing a Purdue bachelor's in computer science at IUPUI. Go Jags!
