Why does IU charge an international student fee?
As at other public universities, IU’s funding model is complex, comprising many revenue sources including state appropriations, student tuition, fundraising, and research grants. In an environment in which all of public higher education faces financial challenges, student fees are a source of additional revenue that can help IU mitigate resource constraints where necessary.
It is critical that we continue to invest in programs, services, and infrastructure that will support our international student community and ensure its strength into the future. The revenue from the international student fee helps defray associated costs.
