Urgent inquiries
Feel free to contact OIS for any reason during normal operating hours.
See the instructions below if you are in one of these situations and the office is closed.
While we always recommend that you get a travel signature before leaving the country, you do have the option of trying to reenter the country without one.
Most students will be allowed to enter and then be given 30 days to provide additional information. This can be done in person or by mail. Or, if you are overseas for an extended period of time, we can mail an I-20 to you.
Call 911 immediately and inform OIS later.
Do not start work without authorization. You will need to postpone your start date until we return and can assist you.
OIS cannot bail you out of jail—call your friends or family for that.
We can, however, advise you of the potential immigration implications of your arrest and provide you with a list of immigration attorneys.
Because court appearances rarely happen immediately, this may not be considered an emergency. Please let us know as many details as you can, and we will advise you.
This could be an emergency. Please let us know immediately—we will need to take action before the expiration date, if possible. If that date has already passed, wait until the office is open and schedule an urgent appointment.
Please check your IU email account for reminders and instructions, and write back to us right away.
