International Scholarships

You may be eligible for academic, need-based, or country-specific scholarships

Scholarships are the best form of financial aid to receive. Scholarships do not require repayment and do not have a work requirement.

You may be eligible for certain scholarships because of your field of study, specific work you have done, or your strong academic record.

Scholarships for incoming freshmen

Academic scholarships

IU awards a limited number of Global Engagement Scholarships to incoming international freshmen each year.

For fall 2016, these competitive, merit-based scholarships range from $1,000 to $11,000 per year. The awards are renewable for four years.

Students are considered for these awards based on an overall assessment of the information provided in the application for admission to IU. No separate scholarship application is required. Submit all of your admission materials by February 1 to be considered.

Need-based scholarships

Students who need financial assistance may apply for a need-based scholarship through iStart throughout the year.

The amounts of the awards vary from $500 to $2,000 (or more, in rare cases), depending on the level of need and the availability of funds.

Please complete all elements of the e-form. Including a budget is helpful as well. Decisions are generally made within two weeks of when the application is submitted, and the scholarships are posted directly to students’ bursar accounts.
